Redistricting Process

UPDATE - 11/23/21

At a special meeting of the Board of Supervisors on 11/22/21, the Board voted on a 3-2 vote to move forward with Map 5A-1. A big thank you to everyone who participated in the process, your input was invaluable and critical to the Board’s deliberations on the final selection of a map at yesterday’s Board meeting. Given the required parameters the Board needed to follow, I truly believe Map 5A-1 was the best outcome for the County as a whole in that it minimizes division, creates fair and equitable representation, complies with Federal Voting Rights Act, and keeps the majority of South County intact.

Below is a link to Map 5A-1 that includes some technical corrections along with a breakdown of the new District-5 boundaries including a listing of the cities/unincorporated areas. Also below, is a link to the timeline for what you can expect moving forward.

11/02/21 - Every ten years, local governments use new census data to redraw their district lines to reflect how local populations have changed. Assembly Bill 849 (2019) requires cities and counties to engage communities in the redistricting process by holding public hearings and/or workshops and doing public outreach, including to non-English-speaking communities.
