ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA — Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley released the following statement today in response to the tragic shooting at Cook’s Corner that occurred on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.
“I’m grateful to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department for the fast response on scene which prevented more carnage, and for the swift action from the Orange County Fire Authority paramedics which saved lives. My office continues to monitor this closely, and I remain in close communication with the OC District Attorney and OC Sheriff’s Department.
“As of this morning, I’m told that the shooter’s estranged wife, Ms. Snowling, remains hospitalized for gunshot wounds. We pray for her safe recovery and send our condolences to all the families of the victims.
“Intimate partner violence leads to nearly half of all mass shootings in this country. Unfortunately, this tragedy at Cook’s Corner adds to this statistic, bringing Orange County’s rate of mass shootings involving intimate partner violence to 44%. We must do more to prevent senseless acts of gun violence and protect survivors of domestic violence and stalking. Fortunately, California’s red flag laws are intended to protect victims from abusers and safely remove guns where potential threats exist. We must ensure enforcement.

According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, three victims died and the suspect. The Orange County Fire Authority transported six additional victims to local hospitals, two remain in critical condition.
A press conference by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and Orange County District Attorney will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at 3 pm.
