Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley Announces Resumption of Passenger Rail Service in San Clemente Ahead of Memorial Day Weekend

ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA — Today, Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley, who serves as a Director of the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), announced that passenger rail service to and from Oceanside is cleared to safely resume as early as tonight, Friday, May 26, 2023.

“This is great news for Orange County residents and those who plan to visit our beautiful coastal communities over the holiday weekend, especially San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente,” said Supervisor Foley. “To continue supporting our local economy and way of life we must work collaboratively to keep our tracks open while crafting our long-term alternatives.”

The City of San Clemente notified OCTA that emergency work is substantially complete and that there is no remaining threat to the rail line. The decision to reopen the tracks was made in consultation with Metrolink and the LOSSAN Rail Corridor Agency.

Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner is expected to run one train to San Diego tonight and resume service in each direction tomorrow (Saturday, May 27). Metrolink service will also resume tomorrow.

Passengers are being asked to continue checking metrolinktrains.com/service-update and pacificsurfliner.com/alerts for the latest information. Electronic updates are being sent in multiple languages to keep passengers informed.
