Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley Releases Statement Following Orange County Line and Inland Empire-Orange County Line Service Suspension

ORANGE COUNTY, CA – Today, Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley released a statement following Metrolink’s announcement of the Orange County Line and Inland Empire-Orange County Line service suspension due to coastal erosion impacting the train tracks along the San Clemente area between Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo and Oceanside.

“Today we’re seeing the immediate impact of climate change as our transportation system is severely affected,” said Supervisor Katrina Foley. “Now our trains between Orange County & San Diego are closed because of the severe coastal erosion happening next to the tracks. Sandbags and rocks are insufficient – we must find science-based solutions. We must act more urgently to protect our neighborhoods, our economy, and our national security from the dangers of coastal erosion.”

According to Metrolink, the following adjusted service schedule begins on Friday morning:

  • Orange County Line:
    • All Orange County Line trains will operate as scheduled between the Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo Station and Los Angeles Union Station, with no alternate transportation to or from San Juan Capistrano, San Clemente or Oceanside.
  • Inland Empire-Orange County Line:
    • All Inland Empire-Orange County Line trains will operate as scheduled between Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo and San Bernardino, with no alternate transportation to or from San Juan Capistrano, San Clemente or Oceanside.
