Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley Announces $17 Million in Funding for the Homekey Project

ORANGE COUNTY, California – Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley (2nd District) has announced that the County of Orange has been awarded $17 million in funding under Round Two of the State Homekey program to acquire the former Quality Inn and Suites in Huntington Beach and convert the former hotel into 62 units of housing for people experiencing homelessness and chronic homelessness.

“This new funding builds upon the momentum that we began in 2021, when I worked with the cities in my District to initiate ‘Homekey in a Box.’ We brought together our County staff and cities to streamline the application process for these projects.” said Supervisor Foley, “The timing is perfect to help house more Veterans and families, while simultaneously converting motels that are often crime magnets into supportive housing.”

This comes after Supervisor Foley worked directly with local mayors, including the former mayor of Huntington Beach, Kim Carr, to initiate this project. Supervisor Foley and County staff worked directly with Huntington Beach and other cities to implement Project Homekey in the communities of Costa Mesa, Buena Park, Huntington Beach and Stanton.

The County submitted the application for the motel conversion project (HB Oasis) alongside the American Family Housing and National Community Renaissance of California (National Core), and in partnership with the city of Huntington Beach.

Supervisor Katrina Foley currently represents Orange County’s Second District, which includes Santa Ana and portions of Garden Grove, Tustin, Orange, and Anaheim.
