Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley Announces Special In-Person COVID-19 Briefing to Discuss the New Omicron Variant and Promote Distribution of Free Saliva Test Kits

ORANGE COUNTY, CA  – Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley will be joined by Orange County Deputy Health Director Dr. Regina Chinsio-Kwong this Friday, December 3rd at 10:30AM for a COVID-19 Press Briefing to discuss the latest news on the emerging Omicron variant and to promote free take-home COVID-19 Saliva Test Kits for residents ahead of the holiday season.

The event will be livestreamed on Facebook at www.facebook.com/SupervisorFoley

“As we celebrate the holidays, it is essential that the members of our community have access to the latest information on the Omicron variant. On November 26th, the World Health Organization determined that Omicron is an emerging variant of concern, which makes the ability to quickly and easily complete one of our free COVID-19 saliva test kits at home even more important.” said Supervisor Katrina Foley, “Our hope is that the availability of these free test kits provided by our Health Care Agency will increase access for those who cannot afford other types of testing or are not able to get vaccinated for personal health reasons. By visiting one of our community-wide vaccine clinics, you can receive your first or second vaccine, or a booster shot. Another perk of being fully vaccinated, is the ability to travel within the U.S. without being required to test or quarantine, which helps during holiday travel.”

At the press briefing, Supervisor Foley and Dr. Chinsio-Kwong will discuss the impacts of the Omicron variant, the overall status of COVID-19 in Orange County, including testing positivity rate, hospitalizations, and vaccination rates among all age groups, reaction to President Biden’s direction to the FDA and CDC to use the ‘fastest process available’ to approve COVID vaccines targeting the Omicron variant , what to expect as we head into the holiday season, why testing is helpful, and information about County-Wide testing availability for Orange County residents.
